In July of 2001 we visited the American Southwest. This first photo is from Meteor Crater, which was hit by a meteorite 50,000 years ago and was the first proven impact crater on Earth.

Here's a picture of some of the hoodoos at Bryce.

and then a thousand or so year old bristlecone pine we saw while hiking at Bryce...

At first the hail we encountered on the way to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon looked like whole bunch of white styrofoam. We saw one car that really wiped out in a gully.



Things were pretty hot and dry at the Petrified National Forest.

I bought a bunch of wood and some fossils at one the stores outside the park.
